Referring to your despatch of the 9th of January last on the subject of Piracy, together with my reply No. 53.
Feb 25.
I have the honor to report the result of my efforts to obtain the effective cooperation of the Chinese Government in its suppression. I enclose copy of my correspondence with the Prince of Kung, Admiral Ting and the officials at the maritime ports, conveying in detail information of all the steps taken by the Chinese officials in that direction.
